At the 2024 World Telecommunication and Information Society Day Conference held today in Ningbo, Zhejiang Province, China Telecom, China Mobile, China Unicom, and China Broadnet jointly announced the launch of the commercial promotion for 5G inter-network roaming.
5G inter-network roaming refers to a situation where, in the absence of 5G network coverage from a user's own operator, the user can access the 5G network of another operator to continue using 5G services. This has significant implications for reducing signal blind spots, enhancing user experience, accelerating 5G network coverage, and particularly improving network coverage in remote and rural areas.
Last May, 5G inter-network roaming was first commercially trialed in Xinjiang, and now this model will be promoted commercially. It is reported that after the launch of the commercial promotion, relevant provinces will develop specific plans to expedite implementation.
