China's Total scale of Computing Power Reaches 246 EFLOPS

At the recent "2024 China Computing Power Conference Opening Ceremony," Zhao Zhiguo, Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, mentioned in his speech that China's total number of operational computing center racks has exceeded 8.3 million standard racks, with a total computing power reaching 246 EFLOPS, placing the country among the world leaders.

In the field of computing power, China has made significant strides in interconnectivity. The capability of ensuring a 1ms (millisecond) latency between metropolitan computing nodes is gradually taking shape, the capability of ensuring a 5ms latency between regional clusters and major surrounding cities is widely covered, and the capability of ensuring a 20ms latency between national hub nodes has been fully realized. The average Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of computing centers across the country has dropped to 1.47, and 246 national green data centers have been established. More than 13,000 computing power application projects in fields such as industry, education, healthcare, and energy have laid a solid foundation for sharing the benefits of digital development on a larger scale and at a higher level.

Zhao Zhiguo stated that we must balance domestic and international markets and resources, innovate regulatory approaches, and continuously optimize the regulatory environment of the industry. We should deepen the pilot opening of the value-added telecommunications business market, promote phased and regional trials of key services such as internet data centers in the computing power field, remove restrictions on foreign equity ratios, and attract foreign enterprises, private enterprises, and others to actively participate in the development of the computing power industry. This will form a new ecosystem for industrial development characterized by resource sharing, platform co-construction, and value co-creation.
