CMRI Showcases Innovations Powered by 5G-A Deterministic Networks in New Industrialization

The 2024 China Mobile Global Partner Conference themed "Smart Rebirth and Creating the AI+ Era" was held in Guangzhou from October 11 to 13. At the conference, China Mobile Research Institute (short for CMRI), together with Huawei, Shanghai Mobile, SAIC Volkswagen, Shanghai Boao, and Shanghai Faith, showcased the flexible production line for automobile welding and painting. The showcase with sample devices identical to those in real scenarios, demonstrated the practical applications of 5G-A deterministic networks in driving new industrialization, generating significant interest among industry professionals. CMRI is a pioneer in developing new industrial infrastructure and innovative technological systems. This innovative accomplishment marks the official entry of 5G-A deterministic network technology into the core production processes of digital and intelligent factories, fully illustrating the essence of new productive forces.

As one of the key technologies driving new industrialization, 5G-A deterministic networks provide critical deterministic capabilities for wireless communications. CMRI has developed a hierarchical, endogenous deterministic technology system, incorporating innovative technologies such as simplified TSN and deterministic packet transmission feedback to provide the integrated supply of endogenous deterministic services. This enables the following key features:

· Low latency: CMRI achieves an extremely low latency of less than 10 ms using technologies such as BAT offset correction and TSCAI, meeting the stringent requirements of industrial control production.

· Low bounded jitter: By using simplified TSN and dual fed and selective receiving, CMRI ensures a bounded jitter of less than 1 ms and provides end-to-end reliability of 99.99%, meeting the latency and jitter stability requirements of industrial production.

· Cross-domain communication: 5G LAN-enabled simplified VN groups enable communication between terminals across different domains, supporting various control protocols at industrial control endpoints.

The showcase is built on the innovations from the 5G-A industrial Internet lab, a joint project between CMRI and Shanghai Mobile (as the innovation base). The devices showcased were developed by CMRI, Shanghai Mobile, Huawei, SAIC Volkswagen, Shanghai Boao, and Shanghai Faith. 5G valve terminals, industrial base stations, industrial UPFs, and other devices are used to stream paths from PLCs to actuators, implementing industrial bus communications and distributed I/O control based on 5G-A valve terminals, with the following features:

· Industrial control devices are always online, and process improvement and interconnection are flexibly implemented.

· 5G-A achieves local industrial control, centralized scheduling, and flexible networking.

· 5G-A adapts to the matrix, modular, and flexible control architecture of future digital and intelligent factories.

The successful showcase of this innovative achievement solidifies CMRI's position as a leader in integrating 5G-A technologies with core industrial production. Moreover, this breakthrough contributes significantly to China's manufacturing sector, accelerating its progress towards new industrialization. As networks continue to evolve towards 5G-A, this innovative solution will have far-reaching applications across various industries, driving the transformation and upgrade of conventional manufacturing processes.
