Huawei's Largest Global R&D Center Completed

Huawei has officially announced the completion of its "Qianqiu Lake R&D Center," an R&D facility in Shanghai that received an investment of over 10 billion RMB (1.4 billion USD). The center will begin operations this year and aims to become a pioneering base for research in semiconductors and advanced technologies, including 5G, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing.

First announced in 2019, the base is located in the Qingpu District, spanning over 2 million square meters. It will accommodate 30,000 employees and feature its own road and railway networks.

The facility will consist of seven "building clusters," including elements like a plaza town, urban blocks, a hilltop settlement, a forest town, a university courtyard, an urban classic axis, and a water town. It is designed to be a "diversified industrial community" integrating corporate offices, R&D pilot testing, technology incubation, production services, and residential accommodations.

Moreover, the new facility is Huawei's largest and most heavily invested R&D center globally to date. It is expected to attract "top-tier talent" to help the company achieve breakthroughs in critical technologies such as 5G and cloud computing.
